Shopping for a new car? Well you might want to know that the months of April, May and June saw a decline in the form of car sales. Now you know why there was only you and John, the sales guy, on the forecourt of your local car dealership recently.

While you might be on the lookout for a new and improved upgrade on your current motor, it appears not everyone had the same sort of idea – perhaps due to the current climate of uncertainty.

As a result, car sales fell by 4.8% year on year last month, this was then followed by a 8.5% drop in May and a 19.8% slide in April – according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

“Demand for new cars has started to cool following five consecutive years of solid growth but the numbers are still strong and the first half of the year is the second biggest on record,” said Mike Hawes, the SMMT chief executive.

Buying a car can be quite confusing at the best of times, especially if you aren’t exactly motor-savvy – coupled with the market only set to remain at a high level for the foreseeable future.

Unfortunately, showing off your brand new Rolls Royce to your disgruntled neighbour may have to be put on ice for now. However, a reasonably priced car is sometimes the way forward. Models such as Ford and Volkswagen produce excellent looking cars with maintained reliability at an affordable price.
